Story
Footage released by the US Southern Command on Wednesday (January 7) showed it seized another Venezuela-linked oil tanker in the Caribbean. In another video released by the Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, it showed the Panama-flagged supertanker M Sophia being seized by US military personnel, which is under sanctions. The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a Venezuela-linked tanker in Latin American waters on Wednesday (January 7). The U.S. military's Southern Command said the Panama-flagged supertanker M Sophia, which is under sanctions, was intercepted before dawn and described it as a "stateless, sanctioned dark fleet motor tanker." The Department of War and Homeland Security conducted the operation. The vessel is now being escorted to the US, according to the Southern Command. "The U.S. Coast Guard is escorting M/T Sophia to the U.S. for final disposition," Southern Command said in a statement. The seizure of this vehicle comes as the US also seized a Russian-flagged oil tanker linked to Venezuela.
