Story

The ousted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were seen arriving at the headquarters of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on Saturday (January 3), after he had been captured by the US and whisked to New York to face drugs and weapons charges in Manhattan federal court. The video posted on social media shows Maduro and Flores, handcuffed and walking alongside DEA agents after exiting the armoured vehicle. In another video, Maduro attempts to speak English after arriving on American soil. “Good night,” Maduro said. Then he said, “Happy New Year,” with a slightly more animated tone. The U.S. has carried out strikes inside Venezuela, as explosions rocked the capital Caracas following President Donald Trump’s announcement early Saturday morning that the US carried out a “large scale strike against Venezuela” and that President Nicolas Maduro and his wife have been captured and removed from the country.
