Footage captured by a local resident when a U.S immigration officer fatally shot a woman in her car during a major Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Minneapolis on Wednesday Jan 7, 2026. The shooting victim has been identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a US citizen. It comes during a major immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis – more than 2,000 agents have been deployed between there and nearby St Paul. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says the shooting happened as a "violent rioter" allegedly attempted to run over an immigration officer. Kristi Noem, the homeland security secretary, says the officer "defensively shot to protect himself". Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rejected the Trump administration's claim that the agent fired in self-defense, saying he has seen video of the shooting that directly contradicts what he called the government's "garbage narrative." "They're already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense," he said at a press conference. "Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly - that is bullshit." “To ICE, get the f*** out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety, and you are doing exactly the opposite.”
