Story

Dashcam footage shows a construction crane collapsing onto vehicles on Rama II Road, in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2026, killing at least two people and intensifying scrutiny of construction safety. Authorities said the crane fell at about 9:15 a.m. on the outbound lanes of Rama II Road, near the Paris Hotel. The project is linked to Italian-Thai Development, which has now been connected to two fatal crane accidents in as many days. The incident came just one day after a separate crane collapse involving the same contractor on a Thai–Chinese high-speed rail project in Sikhio district, in Nakhon Ratchasima. In that case, a bridge-launching crane fell onto a passenger train, killing and injuring multiple people. Following the back-to-back accidents, Thailand’s transport minister ordered an urgent nationwide review of construction projects under the ministry’s supervision, citing concerns over safety standards and oversight. Italian-Thai Development has not yet issued a public response to the latest incident. Investigations into both collapses are ongoing.
