Story
Drone footage shows a new buildup of Russian military equipment at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, in southern Ukraine, on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, according to Ukrainian officials. Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesman for Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces, said the footage was recorded by a Ukrainian drone and shows Russian forces using the nuclear facility to train drone operators and launch rocket attacks toward the city of Zaporizhzhia. Voloshyn said Russian troops are positioning military assets within the plant’s grounds to shield them from attack, using critical nuclear infrastructure as cover. He described the actions as a violation of international law and warned they pose a serious threat to regional nuclear safety. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest nuclear facility, has been under Russian control since early in the war. Ukraine and international organizations have repeatedly raised concerns about military activity at the site. Russia has previously denied endangering nuclear safety at the plant. The latest claims could not be independently verified.
