Eyewitness footage showed the aftermath of strikes on the residence of former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after Israel and the U.S. conducted strikes on Iran on Feb 28, 2026. News reported that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian were both targeted but the result of the strikes was not clear, according to Israeli intelligence sources. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the United States had begun "major combat operations" in Iran after Israel also said it had launched missile attacks against the country. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that a joint U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran launched "will allow the brave Iranian people to rid themselves of the burden of this murderous regime." In a video statement released shortly after the attack on Iran started, Netanyahu said that the joint campaign, called in Israel 'Operation Roaring Lion,' was meant to remove the threat to both Israel and the U.S., posed by the regime in Teheran. The Iranian government on Saturday confirmed its attacks on several targets, according to the Fars news agency, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, where US airbases are hosted. The office of Iran's supreme leader, and the presidential office in Tehran, were reportedly targeted, as well as military sites across the country. Damage - thought to be caused by Iranian attacks - has also been seen across the region, including in Qatar, the UAE and Kuwait.
